News today seems so vague and lacking. Most of us are wondering what the journalists could be doing with the news. But some of us can read between the lines nowadays. Envelopmental journalism is already rampant. As you probably ask, what is envelopmental journalism? Well, it goes in these two ways: first, writers or journalists who are given luxurious gifts or an astronomical amount of money to keep the naked truth to themselves, or change the story from the real one to a more appealing and positive note; secondly are the powerful people, or could be the extremely rich people, but mostly politicians who have bad reputations, who threaten journalists to not expose the truth, so that their lives would be spared as well as their family’s lives.

As we have all seen in the news, many media men were killed because of their knowledge, those who are still threatened tend to hide and not expose the truth. Some, due to greed, accept precious material offers and go on with their lives as if they did not break their code of ethics. Still, I believe that there are some, or maybe even a lot of journalists, who are still doing the right and truthful thing. Here, not letting themselves is held of all the threats and precious, almost can’t-decline offers, for they know how essential the truth is. Not only to every individual, but also to the country, this would seem to need attention.

Bribing has been a “contributor” to the growing number of causes why there could be injustice in the Philippines. And this action is actually one mode of concealing the truth. Many journalists practice this and being bribed is considered to be a normal part of their jobs. If they deal with libel and ethics, journalists can actually resist this practice if they choose to do it so since insisting this “bribing” practice is just a way of life. The responsibility of a public informant, one of journalists’ tasks, is sacred. Thus, truth shall prevail and shall never be misconstrued nor twisted to conceal what really is happening.

After all, ethical standards for journalists need to be enhanced so to properly guide our public informants of musts and must-not. This could be a way of life, so, proper choice of actions have to be observed, making sure that the public interest is never put into chaos.
